Jeff Palkowski, MHRM, SHRM-SCP, PHR is a Divisional Workforce Relations Manager and Divisional Disability Representative with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Information Technology. He has worked in human resources and has been involved with the Society for Human Resource Management at national, state, and local chapter levels since 2003. Jeff currently serves on the Wisconsin SHRM State Council as a District Director and Director of Communications and Social Media, a SHRM Advocacy Captain for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, and member of the SHRM Foundation Leadership Circle. A SHRM Senior Certified Professional, HRCI Professional in Human Resources, and Hootsuite Academy Certified Social Marketing Professional; Jeff received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earned a Master of Human Resources Management degree from the Keller Graduate School of Management, and completed additional coursework at Cardinal Stritch University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Purdue University. After a few days of catching up on my sleep, I decided to take a moment to reflect on the past week in New Orleans, organize the 300+ pictures that I managed to capture with my phone, and think about what I gained from this year’s SHRM Annual Conference as well as why I have decided to “conference” every year.

With a huge exhibition hall with over 500 exhibitors and vendors, the SHRM Annual Conference is a great place to connect with companies who will be demonstrating and selling a variety of products and services to thousands of attendees.

One of the companies that I hope you will take some time to visit is isolved. isolved is a customer centric, Human Capital Management (HCM) company headquartered in Charlotte, NC with eight offices located across the country.

I have had the opportunity to visit New Orleans only once a few years ago, and by coincidence, it was for also for an annual conference, albeit for my wife’s profession. While she was spending most of her days at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center for her conference, I was able to explore the city and found it to be exciting, vibrant, and with so much to offer visitors with its history, culture, music, and of course…food!

It is an understatement to say that 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. While the world faced a global pandemic, fear, and uncertainty; so many individuals stepped up to answer the call and face these challenges head-on. This included most importantly our dedicated healthcare workers, heroic first responders, and countless essential workers across so many industries that worked tirelessly to keep our infrastructure and quite frankly, our way of life functioning. We owe these front-line workers a great deal of thanks and gratitude now and always.
