I know, I know – we’re all sick of hearing “HR should get on the Social Bandwagon,” but I thought since that’s my vein I should go ahead and offer my predictions on the subject.

So here are my thoughts in going into 2013, the year of The Jetsons.

When Amir Farhi, CEO of Netotiate, a company that conducts online merchandise negotiations, was seeking to fill a key inside sales representative job, he didn’t turn to job boards or a career website for help. Farhi instead looked to hire for the position through referrals from his employees’ network of friends and connections on social media sites LinkedIn and Facebook.

Contrary to some reports that working just a little bit longer—to age 70—will allow between 80 percent and 90 percent of households to have adequate income in retirement, new research by the nonprofit Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) shows that for approximately one-third of U.S. households between the ages of 30 and 59, that won’t be enough.

Social media can be a valuable tool for organizations looking to recruit military veterans who are transitioning to the civilian world, according to Lisa Rosser, a military recruiting expert.

Rosser, founder of The Value of a Veteran in Herndon, Va., has 25 years of military experience—10 of those on active duty—and 14 years in staffing and consulting.

She and Neil Costa, of Boston-based digital recruitment marketing agency HireClix, were presenters during an Aug. 9, 2012 webinar, “Recruiting Veterans Through Social Media.”

Most of you know Alec Baldwin’s famous speech in Glengarry Glen Ross where he shares the golden rule of sales: “ABC: Always Be Closing.” Even more so than sales, recruiting is a job where you need to always be on. If you’re not constantly building a pipeline of candidates and promoting your brand, chances are that the top candidates you want to hire will slip through the cracks.

Hopefully, we all understand that social media is not a fad and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Social Media is not only changing how we communicate with family and friends but it’s changing how we do business.

I gathered the most recent reports from SHRM and others that was a conglomeration of outstanding information and really wanted to create a visual to show how HR is incorporating social media, not only in their everyday lives, but into their workplaces.
