If so, this post is directed to you.  If you have been before you are welcome to review my thoughts, and add any helpful thoughts you might have in the comments section. I am told by a reliable SHRM insider that there will be a session Sunday morning for first time attendees, so you might check on that as an option while you are at registration.

The SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition is once again upon us. Practitioners, recruiters, HR Managers, and anyone who’s anyone will be flocking to the sunny state of Florida June 22-25, 2014. This year should bigger and better before with speakers like Robin Roberts, Mrs. Laura Bush, David Novak, Tom Friedman, and the country musings of Tim McGraw.

OK, I realize I am a little late to the party on the SHRM 13 recap.  For the weeks leading up to, and the weeks after, I have learned a lot about empathy and understanding what my employees may be going through from time to time in their personal lives. I will save the empathy and stress management for another post and focus on the SHRM national conference. As a rare conference attendee, my experience in Chicago was one of the more rewarding, humbling experiences I’ve had in a while.

SHRM13 has wrapped up and it was honestly the best National SHRM Conference I’ve attended.  The vibe was cool and people seemed to be at ease and engaged at the same time.  Just prior to the Conference kicking off, my good friend, Mark Stelzner, put a challenge out on Facebook to see if anyone could come away from the event with 5 new ideas.

This morning HR Professionals across the world catapulted themselves through the office doors full of inspiring new ideas. The SHRM annual conference has concluded, now it is up to us to carry the well-lit torch of knowledge into our organizations. We came to Chicago to learn and share. Through human consensus, however, I can tell you that HR's greatest challenge is ending the stigma!

Wanna see a bunch of HR people cry? Put them in the an expo hall the size of an airplane hanger and put Mr. Blake Mycoskie on stage. We HR folk are often called upon to put our emotions in-check....no such luck on Monday morning in Chicago!
