When Johnny C. Taylor Jr., SHRM-SCP, was 15, he applied to be on “Teen Wheel of Fortune,” a TV show taped before a live audience in California. Taylor, who lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., received a letter from the producers welcoming him to try out if he was in the area.

As Kelly Andrews began his freshmen year at BYU, he participated in activities offered by the Society of Human Resource Management’s student OBHR chapter. But after noticing only a handful of people in attendance at each meeting, Andrews was determined to make a change.
 
Andrew’s resolve led to a re-evaluation of the chapter’s objectives as well as a campaign to spread awareness. Now SHRM has hundreds of members and OBHR applicants have more than doubled in number.

HR + TV =  A Winning Formula for the Profession

Raising awareness about the HR profession is one of SHRM’s most abiding missions.  What better way to accomplish this than through the power of television – and through the voice of “real” HR professionals – not actors. 

This week, SHRM was awarded a 2015 Gold MarCom Award for its 30-second TV spot “Working for Us,” which features three SHRM-certified members.  The TV commercial is being shown on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOX and Fox Business Network.
