As I was heading home after #SHRM22, I couldn’t help thinking about what I enjoyed the most. First, as a history lover, specifically U.S. history, it was an immeasurable honor to attend the closing general session to hear from President George W. Bush. Further, given the current divisive political climate, I was immensely proud of the respect shown to the former President by the thousands of my HR colleagues also in attendance.
As part of the SHRM Influencer team, we were asked to kind of do a debrief of our SHRM Annual experience this year. For so many people this was their first live event in over two years. I spoke to so many HR professionals who could not have been more excited to be back in person!
I love creating wrap up posts and blogs after events. It was fun to reflect on the whirlwind of a week that SHRM22 in New Orleans was. Here it goes!
Whew! I made through SHRM22! I networked (so many people), I connected (and reconnected), I learned (a lot), I ate (too much), I drank (just enough), I danced (badly), I had a terrifying ghostly experience at my hotel (but that’s for another blog). So now what?
SHRM22! Here’s twenty-two quick takeaways from this year’s SHRM Conference in New Orleans.
I am still buzzing from all the exciting sessions and networking that took place at this year’s SHRM22. To say it was a worthwhile event would definitely be an understatement. There were so many great presentations and speakers that I'll need weeks to process everything I learned!
Last week, over 18,000 HR professionals came together both in New Orleans and virtually during four incredible days at the SHRM Annual Conference and Expo. From sessions to connections, #SHRM22 had something to offer an HR profession regardless of your level, industry, employer size or location.
Background:
I was pleased to have had the opportunity to support SHRM 22 remotely this year. The SHRM team fully engaged the online audience with many treats and surprises as we “caused the effect”. There were many memorable moments, I will highlight a few of my favorites.
After a few days of catching up on my sleep, I decided to take a moment to reflect on the past week in New Orleans, organize the 300+ pictures that I managed to capture with my phone, and think about what I gained from this year’s SHRM Annual Conference as well as why I have decided to “conference” every year.
1 in 4. If you were to have a one in four chance of winning the lottery, you would play. Those chances are a no-brainer.
Those same odds represent the number of employees who feel hopeless today.

I have just returned from SHRM22 and I want to express my gratitude:
SHRM22 Planners and SHRM staff – THANK YOU for all your efforts to plan another amazing conference experience! The #CauseTheEffect theme, the #OneHR bracelets, the keynote and session speaker line-up were all extraordinary.
