Step outside your bubble

As I started packing my bag for the 2019 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition last night (the largest Human Resource conference in the world) I had a moment of panic. My heart started racing. I can’t afford the time, there is too much happening, my task-list is a mile long….

Five years ago there was only a handful of Global HR vendors at the 2019 SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition. In recent years we have seen a significant increase and #SHRM19, welcomes a great selection of global expansion and mobility firms, global payroll and benefit providers plus law firms offering legal advice on overseas jurisdictions.

There is more talk at this year’s SHRM Annual Conference about recruiting difficulties than there has been during my previous visits to this conference.

We 1st heard about this from the perspective of Mike Rowe. He pointed out that we have 2.8 million unfilled jobs yet have record amounts of student debt piling up. Was his conclusion that we are training people for jobs that they don’t want or don’t exist anymore correct?

A week ago I was listening to Robin Roberts inspire 10,000+ HR professionals with her journey, wisdom and strength. I continue to be impressed with the speakers that SHRM pulls for events, but Robin Roberts probably takes the cake! She was so humble and I love her sense of humor. A week later I’m still sitting her amazed at the honor of sharing a room with her. She was just amazing, but we also heard from one of our own, Heather Abbott.
