unboXt, inc: How We Provide Leaders with the Tools They Need to Retain and Engage Current Employees

unboXt is a 2022 WorkplaceTech Accelerator (WTA) cohort member. The WTA is a premier program for all things future of work and is powered by SHRMLabs (SHRM’s innovation lab and venture capital arm). Our inaugural 8-week virtual accelerator program is currently underway and is designed to scale up early-stage, growth-driven startups dedicated to elevating HR and solving today’s most pressing workplace challenges. We asked each of the six cohort members to share their story in their own words. 

HR leaders are unsung heroes within organizations. They are magicians who must pull a rabbit out of a hat daily—from driving engagement, creating and implementing strategies to spotting, developing, and retaining talent, HR is expected to do a lot with a little. unboXt enables all managers to connect more deeply with their team members. 

To do so, we take  employee feedback at the team level and provide managers with actionable recommendations to improve team motivation, engagement, and trust. Our software solution turns employee data into tips that will help mangers become more effective.    

We do integrate with most talent solutions, however we designed unboXt as a standalone system that is nimble and removes the friction of having just another tool. unboXt takes a unique route on how we help organizations achieve their performance targets. Our solution focuses less on hiring (although we do capture new-hire satisfaction), and more on retaining and engaging current employees. Organizations focus largely on new talent and the future growth of their business; we enable organizations to measure at scale the talent within their organization and give actionable tips on how to engage and invest in talent.  

With our system we have been able to achieve a 92% response rate to our personalized digital check-in and leaders, 12% more effective within 90 days of using unboXt, and turnover is reduced by 10-20% within 12 months. We measure effectiveness by the increase in team motivation, morale, and performance. This reduction in turnover is how unboXt helps to reduce costs for organizations. These cost savings cannot be achieved without both investing in a tool that employees will use, and investment in leadership development.  

Imagine the adage of "people leave people, not organizations" being a figment of the past. That is what we are achieving at unboXt and hope to continue to do at scale.  

Without forgetting about HR, unboXt allows HR leaders to quantify their people initiatives. This alone helps them to be able to show impact with a dollar amount. That's pretty special.
