September 26 is #HumanResourceProfessionalDay.
Every day, HR professionals positively impact the lives of employees in workplaces around the world and contribute to the business strategy that allows their organizations to compete, grow and thrive.
We asked our bloggers to share their HR stories.
Why did you choose a career in HR?
I can’t say that I chose HR but after graduating college I became a mortgage consultant and knew this was not for me. After resigning, I went on Craigslist and found a job that specialized in employee relations and that’s where I am now.
What has been the most rewarding part of your HR career? There are rewarding parts of my HR career. I really have a passion for helping organizations and people and being in employee relations I am able to. Another passion of mind is diversity and inclusion. It is very important to me that all feel included. As a gay cisgender male, I had some tough times in my life before coming out. Before coming out I did not feel included. I never want people to feel that way so it is my mission to make sure that organizations have an inclusive environment.
Why would you recommend a career in HR to students or those looking to transfer into the HR profession from another field?
HR needs you. We are a field that is heavily involved in all facets of the organization. HR helps organizations in all areas, such as talent acquisition, compensation, employee relations, benefits, mergers and acquisitions, training & onboarding, etc.
What advice can you share with others who are planning a career in HR?
My advice to anyone is just be your authentic self. Be you and be proud!
