"The future is always beginning now" - Mark Strand
The above quote compliments SHRM21 theme "Now More Than Ever," with the pandemic ravaging the world, businesses are striving to rebound. HR has a unique role in making a difference Now, More Than Ever.
The long-awaited SHRM21 has concluded; I said long-awaited because, after SHRM19 at Las Vegas, we waited for 27 months. Unfortunately, as you well know, the pandemic situation forced SHRM to cancel SHRM20 in San Diego and reschedule the SHRM21at Chicago to Vegas again in September. The SHRM21 offered everything for every level of HR practitioners providing content in 11 tracks.
Given the pandemic restrictions, SHRM's first-ever hybrid conference was a success in every sense. Both in the attendance and the level of engagement with the in-person and virtual attendees. As a virtual attendee, I am impressed with the delivery platform, quality of content and felt connected from start to finish. The #SHRM21 team deserves kudos and appreciation for pulling the hybrid event of this magnitude with ease and for all the hard work, dedication, and commitment.
SHRM21 has few first in SHRM21; let me highlight a few:
Hybrid Conference: SHRM21 is the first-ever hybrid conference in SHRM's 73 years history, according to Johnny C Taylor, SHRM. Except for few sessions, most of the sessions were live-streamed.
Picture 1: Las Vegas - SHRM Annual Conference and Expo in September: June is conference month for SHRM every year; SHRM21 in September is something new; the tribute paid for 09/11 20th anniversary was fitting, poignant with the people who served, sacrificed was touching.

Better Workplace Challenge Cup: As an HR Tech practitioner, I firmly believe technology is an enabler in digital transformation, helping to improve the workplace and augment efficiencies. I hoped that SHRM, being the world's largest HR organization, would facilitate HR Tech products. Five start-ups competed in the Better Workplaces Challenge Cup. Daymond John, award-winning entrepreneur, and star of ABC's Shark Tank, investors, HR professionals, media were part of the Judge panel and selected Compt as the winner of the challenge. Congrats, Compt!
