#SHRM18 – The Journey to Chicago

We’re officially on the journey to Chicago, for the 2018 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition in June! I’ve attended this event several times since I began my HR career in 2006, but this year is different for several important reasons. One of those reasons is the incredible opportunity to serve as one of the official #SHRM18 bloggers! The words escape me as I attempt to express how grateful and excited I am for this upcoming experience; it’s truly an opportunity of a lifetime.

As our world becomes more and more connected, it’s essential for each of us to make our voices heard. I’m inspired by the group of talented business leaders that have been selected to serve as members of the #SHRM18 Blog Squad. I had the good fortune to meet some of these individuals at last year’s event. I’m even more fortunate to call these people friends now. And that’s another reason why this event is different for me this year; last year was truly the first event where I escaped the confines of my comfort zone and ventured out to see what was possible beyond its seemingly impenetrable boundaries. What lies on the outside of those boundaries are some of the greatest experiences life can offer. I simply cannot wait to see these folks again, to create new friendships, and to start working in a really exciting role: connecting the HR community in Chicago and across the globe with this incredible event.

There’s something really special about the annual SHRM national conference, and that’s because of the diverse nature of the programs that are offered, and the diversity of the attendees. Professionals from all backgrounds converge for a few days to gain wisdom that can be used to move our field forward. Which leads me to another key reason this year’s event is different, and that’s because I believe change is on the horizon for HR. Now, more than ever, organizations across the globe are discovering that HR can and should be the catalyst for ethical ways to do business. Great HR starts with good leadership; one cannot exist without the other. This also calls for us to find new and innovate ways to add value to the lives of the people we’re serving. After all, every single person that works in HR is a leader, regardless of title. I have no doubt that many of the people that will be in Chicago this summer will be the ones that ultimately are the spark for moving HR forward in new and exciting directions.

I’ve been watching the introductory videos posted on Twitter by our Blog Squad, and I can tell you that we’re in for some really, really great content. During this journey to Chicago, stay tuned to our social media feeds for updates, thoughts, and different ways to connect you with the upcoming event. It’s incredibly heartwarming to see how being members of the Blog Squad is already building new friendships, while also strengthening those that have already been made. We’re truly a team of people committed to lifting each other up, and we’re dedicated to creating something really special for you in Chicago this summer.

Again, endless gratitude to work with this team of business leaders. Insights, friendships, memories, and the chance to expand our world will all be included this summer. Our journey is just beginning, and I promise it will be exciting along the way! See you online, and more importantly, see you in Chicago!
