#SHRM16: Find Your Career Breakthrough in DC

Hello and Happy New Year! You may have heard that the SHRM 2016 Annual Conference & Exposition is in Washington, D.C. this year.  For many of you, this will come as no surprise but this meeting is my favorite time of year.  The reason for that is plain and simple--There is no bigger learning, sharing, and developmental event in HR than #SHRM16.  I encourage everyone to see what #SHRM16 and the future of HR are all about

For my colleagues working in the federal government, #SHRM16 provides a great way to connect with thought leaders from all sectors and bring your expertise to share with over 20,000 HR professionals, consultants, technicians, and vendors.  For those in the I-O community, there is no better way to connect with our chief partners-in-crime (aka HR professionals) than attending #SHRM16.  For all my finance and communications colleagues, #SHRM provides the best forum for learning about the Decade of Human Capital.

But if you need even more evidence that this will be the most engaging and successful SHRM Annual Conference ever, here are three reasons everyone should attend:

1) Oh the networking!  If you've ever wondered what it was like to meet 20,000 of your closest peers all in one stretch, then #SHRM16 is for you.  I can't tell you the number of times I've heard about people meeting people who eventually helped them grow and building a fascinating career.  If networking is your thing then #SHRM16 is the place to be.

2) My head hurts from all this learning!  Last year was my 6th SHRM Annual Conference and it was memorable for so many reasons but chief among them was a conversation I had with colleagues from SHRM Hawaii.  One of the leaders of this State Council shared with me how the conference based upon competency-based learning was doing two things--1) helping her see the possibilities for improved HR throughout her organization; and 2) making her head hurt from all things she learned over the four days.  I echo her sentiment and say there is no better option for your development needs.

3) From Survive to THRIVE!  Most people come to the SHRM conference for professional development and recertification for their SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.  Two very critical components for becoming one of the best HR professionals in the world.  Those who attend with these purposes in mind walk away with a realization that they came for strategies on surviving their day-to-day grind but will accomplish so much more with tools and tips for thriving. They realize their focus has expanded and that they are armed with everything needed to dominate the business landscape.  They are the business leaders ready for any and all challenges.  I like to think of this as finding your BREAKTHROUGH moment where your career development coalesces and everything falls into place. #SHRM16 can do that for you too.

So will we see you at #SHRM16?  What are you looking forward to the most?  I will hold a spot for you at the opening general session.  See you there!"
