SHRM Young Professional Spotlight: Mitchell Aasted

SHRM is shining a spotlight on some amazing young HR professionals.  Meet SHRM Young Professional Mitchell Aasted.

Q. What do you see as being the biggest challenge for HR in the next 10 years?

The biggest challenge for HR in the next ten years will be rebranding the division as a strategic business function.  It will also be interesting to see how much automation of tasks will affect the labor market, and subsequently the various functions of HR.
 

Q.  What is the best method for engaging employees?

There is no better method of engaging employees than a good manager.  There is an old saying that sums up this concept nicely, “People don’t leave companies, they leave managers.” Finding, growing and training those managers is where HR comes into play.
 

Q.  What qualities do you think are most important for strong leadership?

Communication skills encompass so many aspects of a manager’s job including, delegation, employee relations, and persuasion to name a few.  So in short, strong leaders have great communications skills. 

Mitchell Aasted is a young professional currently working at Molina Healthcare Inc. as a HR Program Coordinator.  Outside of work he is addicted to watching football, playing sports and learning.
