Passionate, hardworking, and dedicated—just a few of the adjectives used to describe the more than 6,000 SHRM volunteers whose commitment to SHRM, their profession, and their communities epitomizes the spirit of National Volunteer Week (#NVW16). As SHRM’s VP of membership, I want to take this moment to thank every last one of our volunteers for all that they do—for their service to SHRM, our members, and our profession every day, 365 days of the year.
During #NVW16, we take time to recognize the immeasurable charity and incredible spirit of volunteers from all walks of life, all across our nation. For us, it’s an opportunity to recognize all of you who support your professional society with its nearly 285,000 members, more than 575 chapters, and 51 state councils. You are what makes our mission possible! What’s truly remarkable is that for so many of you that spirit of volunteerism extends well beyond what you do for SHRM and the profession. That sense of service is in your DNA, as many of you give back to your communities as well. From volunteer firefighters, to parent-teacher volunteers, to little league coaches, causes big and small are fueled by the power of volunteer armies, made up of people who are willing to raise their hand or add their name to a list.
Over the course of National Volunteer Week, those who know our volunteers best—SHRM’s Field Services Directors—will share a series of profiles on the SHRM blog. These stories will describe the commitment and achievements of SHRM’s volunteer army. Additionally, each of our more than 6,000 volunteers will receive a certificate, as a heartfelt token of our appreciation for all that you do!
I’m both humbled and honored to serve as your VP of membership. Having served as a volunteer leader within SHRM, and within my community, I know how hard it is to balance all that we do, both personally and professionally. Please know that we here at SHRM, at every level, are so very appreciative of your commitment! You are truly the backbone of our organization and our profession!
Sincerely,
Elissa O’Brien,
VP, SHRM Membership
