Ashlee Smith, the Director of Development for the SHRM Foundation, wants to make sure that you get the full DC experience while you’re at #SHRM16. From monuments to jazz music, here’s Ashlee’s full list of recommendations for #SHRM16 attendees.
Don’t wait until your stomach starts growling and head straight to the following restaurants at some point during your stay. Good Stuff Eatery is the place to go for a great burger and milkshake. A quick fun fact: if you’re a fan of Top Chef and Iron Chef, you’ll recognize the name of the owner of the franchise, Spike Mendelsohn. There are also plenty of restaurants along U Street that offer great food and a night full of jazz music. But make sure you leave some room for Ben’s Chili Bowl, also located on U Street, and order Ashlee’s personal favorite, a half smoke and chili fries. Trust me, your stomach will thank you for it. And last but not least, consider enjoying dinner at Bistro Du Coin. The restaurant serves amazing rustic French and Belgian food and if you’re feeling competitive after your meal, cross the street and head on over to the Board Room to enjoy drinks while playing board games! Are you drooling yet?
After all that eating, you’ll certainly want to do some exercise. Grab your running shoes and go on an early morning jog along Ashlee’s favorite route where you can catch a glimpse of most of the monuments. She highly recommends taking a walk from the Washington Monument (where you can get views of the Capitol), to the World War II Memorial (and get great views of the Lincoln Memorial), then to the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and finally, finish at the Franklin Roosevelt Memorial. This is also a great way to get in extra steps for the SHRM Foundation Step Challenge!
And if you’ve not yet registered for #SHRM16, you may do so at annual.shrm.org. But do it quickly- we’re 98% sold out!
