Beverly is one of the 140 SHRM Foundation scholarship recipients. She is a seasoned HR professional who is passionate about the profession and thankful for the support of her family.

Meet Beverly:

I applied for this scholarship because I am determined to receive the SHRM-SCP certification. I have worked in HR for over 15 years. It has not been an easy task getting where I am today as a Human Resource Manager for a company that has over 150 employees. Prior to working in HR, I worked in textile manufacturing, while raising four children as a single mother and attending school nightly. I have always believed that any goal can be achieved. It depends on how determined you are to obtain your goals. This is what I have taught my children and what I am now teaching my grandchildren.

I am married to a wonderful husband that has helped me in getting where I am today. We have been married for 21 years. Without him I could not have done it. I have held several positions in HR, payroll manager, administrative assistant, employee relations manager, HR supervisor and now Human Resource Manager. In my current position, I am the sole HR representative, an HR department of one. I am responsible for safety, benefits, employee relations, strategic planning while also being a member of senior management. I love my job and most importantly doing what is right for the employees and what is best for the company.

I try to convey to individuals that are going through tough times to continue on, to try to better themselves, to keep pushing forward and it will work out in the end. SHRM Foundation scholarships are important and can help individuals like myself complete goals and also become more of an expert in HR. I am still learning every day and am able to pursue my goals thanks to this scholarship. I hope to help others like me achieve their goals.
