SHRM Connect: Friday Funnies

SHRM Connect is an online community where SHRM members can ask questions and get answers on a variety of HR topics. It’s a great place to network with other HR professionals and share solutions.

The conversation topics range from “HR Department of One” to Employment Law, are always insightful, and deal with some of the most pressing issues that HR professionals face in the workplace today.

While some of the conversations take on a more serious tone, others will deliver a bit of comic relief, and on Fridays, I’ll be highlighting a conversation or two in hopes that you’ll take some time to visit. You may want to "lurk"… perhaps respond, but you’ll always learn something.

It’s a great community and I highly recommend that you check it out.

After a rough week of some sad news stories, this week's conversations will offer a bit of that comic relief mentioned above...

Subject: Phone Screen Funny

In the General HR group...

I just finished a phone screen where the candidate said he is making $90,000,000 (ninety million) per year and is looking for the same salary range. He is working as a CSR and applied to be a CSR.

In the General HR group...

Boss just told me to enjoy my vacation and take the time to decompose. I hope he meant decompress.  :/

Subject: Best Resume Laugh Today

In the General HR group...

I got a resume from someone today applying for a Customer Service Rep. position.

They are presently working for a company that deals with mosquitoes. One of the bullet points under this job was "Knowledge of Mosquitoes".

Maybe it won't for you, but this gave me a good laugh.

Subject: Funny HR Stories

In the General HR Group, some funny HR stories...

I had a candidate tell me he needed to be home by 3:00 pm so his ankle monitor would not go off.  :-)

I once had to write up an employee for making their own name tag which they wrote our company name, their name, stated they were a manager (they were not) and duct taped it to their shirt daily; customer was not impressed...

I once had a candidate speak in the third person for the entire interview. "Bob does not manage people, Bob leads people." Bob did not move on to a final interview. :-)
