In addition to attending sessions and presentations, networking, and perusing the exposition hall, conference attendees at #SHRM18 in Chicago had the opportunity to participate in the conference service project.
In partnership with the SHRM Foundation and Clean the World, SHRM attendees helped support and empower the local homeless veteran populations of Chicago. Conference attendees came together to create hygiene kits, which include items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, socks, and deodorant.
In just under 6 hours, conference volunteers assembled more than 1,200 kits, which were donated to Volunteers of America Chicago, a nonprofit organization that supports veterans and empowers other vulnerable populations.
Bridget Hickey, senior development manager for Volunteers of America, Illinois, was especially appreciative of the donation: “Thank you to the generosity of SHRM for helping instill dignity to the veterans in our programs experiencing instability in their lives by providing hygiene kits. We are grateful to the members of SHRM for actively giving back to our nation’s veterans.”
On behalf of the SHRM Foundation, Volunteers of America, and Clean the World, we extend a huge thank you to all attendees that participated in the service project. In just a few hours, we were able to bring a tremendous impact to the city of Chicago—THANK YOU!
