Making Healthy Eating an Easy Part of Your Work Life

What’s in your lunch?

To mark American Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association this November encourages Americans to consider the benefits of healthy eating. And what better place to start than the lunch you have in the workplace.

Whether you are one of the nearly 30 million Americans living with diabetes or the 86 million Americans with prediabetes or simply want to live a healthier lifestyle, the Eat Well, America! campaign will show you how easy and joyful health eating can be for all.

Each week during November, the association will share nutritious recipes selected by noted chefs and cookbook authors for every meal of the day, including snacks and special occasion treats. Not only that, but the association will offer help on how to choose, prepare, serve and eat healthy food that is both delicious and nutritious.

From tip sheets to shopping lists, the association’s resources are available to HR professionals and employees. Let’s make healthy eating a fun and easy part of daily life – and your work life.

The association will spotlight what healthy, simple and enjoyable meals look like on National Healthy Lunch Day -- Nov. 17 (#HealthyLunchDay). On this day, the association will spotlight how to “Lunch Right with Every Bite,” and make better food choices to counter rising rates of type 2 diabetes and obesity-related illnesses.

It’s easy to participate. We encourage SHRM members to share photos of their healthy lunch plates on social media using the hashtag #MyHealthyLunch (and #SHRM) to inspire friends and families to make healthy lunch choices that best fit their lifestyle. SHRM members might also consider other ways to participate, including inviting a dietitian to your office for an information session, organizing a healthy lunch potluck or replacing vending machine offerings with healthier options.

As the American Diabetes Association marks its 75th anniversary, it is dedicated to helping SHRM give its members the tools they need to achieve health and wellness every single day.
