HR + TV =  A Winning Formula for the Profession

Raising awareness about the HR profession is one of SHRM’s most abiding missions.  What better way to accomplish this than through the power of television – and through the voice of “real” HR professionals – not actors. 

This week, SHRM was awarded a 2015 Gold MarCom Award for its 30-second TV spot “Working for Us,” which features three SHRM-certified members.  The TV commercial is being shown on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOX and Fox Business Network.

The MarCom Award is an international, creative competition for communications and marketing professionals.  The competition has grown to perhaps one of the largest of its kind in the world, with more than 6,500 entries from the United States, Canada and 15 other countries submitted this year.  Winners were selected from over 200 categories in seven forms of media and communications. 

SHRM’s TV spot was up against some heavy hitters and cutting-edge corporations and nonprofits, but I have to believe it was our members featured in the commercial that gave us the edge in winning this prestigious award.  SHRM is lucky to have such dedicated, committed members willing to take on a very public role in representing the HR community and advancing the HR profession. 

But this turned out to be more than just a pretty TV commercial.  It was a way to bring attention to the HR profession.  As our three members in the TV commercial explain in the video below, it was “a way to give back the profession, to “represent the HR community,” and to show the world that HR does “a heck of a lot more than just hire and fire.”

 

SHRM is the only HR organization to win a MarCom Award, and is the only group promoting HR’s leadership nationally in a very public manner.  We are proud of our work but more importantly, proud of our members.
