Is it the right thing to do for you Compensation and Rewards HR types?
As the title asks, “is it the right thing for you to do? Then the question begs what is IT? This is the question…Should you be jumping on the Incentive Bandwagon? This is the title to a presentation that is being done by a couple of Midwest women, who have spent a lot of their lives working in the compensation and rewards area of Human Resources.
Karen Vujtech from the Chicagoland area and Lisa Carlton from Topeka, KS have spent their time in the trenches building and implementing compensation plans, so they know how this stuff works! In fact, working on compensation issues is how the two met. Karen and Lisa both served on a SHRM special expertise panel for three plus years, helping bring the issue to the forefront.
In planning for the session, Karen said that while they served on the panel they could not help but notice there were rarely a lot of offerings at the annual conference when it came to topics on Compensation and Rewards. Thus was the idea to submit a presentation in that very area. Conference planner must have agreed as they have it scheduled for two times Monday June 20 at 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday June 21.
While this presentation in Washington is the maiden voyage for this content, Karen and Lisa built this presentation from a framework that has been used and well received at the Illinois SHRM State Conference. The session is designed not only for Compensation and Benefits folks, but also for HR Generalists, who may not have a wide-ranging knowledge of Compensation and Rewards. This session should give you some food for thought and insight into plan design.
They are going to discuss variable pay and incentives, and talk about how they might apply in your organization. They will discuss how it might work for you, or how it might not be the thing to do. They will help you understand how to sustain a plan once implemented, and how to measure it. We know that HR is all about the metrics, right?
So if you have been researching these matters, or have been told to put something together in terms of rewards or variable compensation, this session is designed for you.
