Nearly all employees desire work-life fit. Take Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan who in taking the job as Speaker of the House recently requested the option to spend less time on the road and more time with his family.
Since Speaker Ryan was overwhelmingly elected to be the 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives last week, it’s likely that his request for additional flexibility has been granted, which will surely benefit the institution and this father of three.
These are the type of win-win flexibility programs that contribute to an effective and flexible workplace. But implementing workplace flexibility options is only part of the solution – sometimes the best laid plans don't work as planned. Organizations may have programs such as telework and job sharing, but things like work culture, ineffective managers and even the employees themselves get in the way.
