What is the NYU School of Professional Studies?! Tell us everything, just as you would someone approaching your booth and asking you this question at #SHRM19 in Las Vegas.

Located in one of the world's most important economic and cultural cities, NYU's School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) offers 19 industry-specific Master's degrees. Human Capital Analytics Degrees that include our core MS in Human Resource Management and Development and our brand new STEM designated Human Capital Analytics and Technology Masters are examples of dynamic, industry focused cutting edge professional degrees. Taught by industry professionals, our graduates are pioneers and leaders in their fields and are revolutionizing the global professional landscape. The student experience is enriched by internships, study abroad opportunities, and a robust career wellness plan to help students launch or advance their careers throughout their studies and beyond.

Let us in on the magic. What’s it like to work in the School of Professional Studies? Do you utilize your resources to educate your own employees?

We believe in living the learning. Our curriculum closely follows the cutting edge of business practice – we are constantly examining how we can improve the student experience and enrich our curriculum. Additionally, we have a broad variety of educational resources for professionals at different stages of their careers. Everything from stand alone courses, training workshops, conferences.

What are the biggest challenges companies face in regards to educating their employees? How do they overcome those challenges?

Some of the biggest challenges in educating employees are time, focus, and employees’ personal commitment. We believe in high customization to each student’s needs. There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to learning;  so we ensure that we offer multiple channels and formats -- in-person classes, online, coaching and internships. team exercises), with individualized advising and tutoring.

What do you wish more HR professionals and recruiters knew about employee education and professional development?

HR Professionals and recruiters need to understand  that employee education and professional development are the starting point and an integral part of  career development from recruitment to talent development and retention. This is why we renamed our program to Human Capital Management, not HR Management. We deplete resources, but we grow capital. People have to be developed to stay engaged, committed and perform at the top of their potential.

How important is it to stay educated in today’s business world?

The only way business is sustainable and successful is if people in it are learning, updating their skills and renewing their  knowledge and skill-sets.

For anyone who won’t be able to make it to the NYU booth in Las Vegas, what do you want them to know?

For those who cannot attend the SHRM Annual Conference, we want you to know that many more roads lead to NYU and we could be reached from all corners of the world.
