A #SHRM19 Interview with Interactive Service

This is a 2019 SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition (#SHRM19) Interview is with Interactive Services, a developer of Compliance eLearning and custom eLearning solutions. Below is a quick Q&A with the Director of Compliance Learning, Jim Bachert.

Who is Interactive Services!? Tell us everything, just as you would someone approaching your booth and asking you this question at #SHRM19 in Las Vegas.

Interactive Services is an award-winning eLearning company that’s been in business for over 25 years. We offer a fully customizable compliance library, including our Harassment Prevention eLearning that just won a Gold Stevie Award. We actively work with 170 multinationals reaching over three million learners worldwide.

Let us in on the magic. What’s the employee training process like at Interactive Services? How do you utilize your own tech and processes to improve talent and performance in the workplace?

Interactive Services is committed to successfully onboarding and training employees, whether they’re a new hire or promoted to a new role. Having an onboarding plan is critical to covering the basics, with technology such as screen sharing solutions driving hands-on learning and real world application. Every employee has a direct mentor in addition to their extended network of support. No matter what is needed, the team is always available to help each other grow.

What are the biggest challenges companies face when training their employees? How do they overcome those challenges?

The biggest challenge we face is knowing exactly what will need to be taught when. While an employee’s first 90 days lays the foundation for their role with predictable elements, key learning and reinforcement happens on-the-job with actual clients.

In order to overcome this challenge, we have employees partner with an experienced employee to support up to mastery. Technology lends a hand in allowing someone to be by their side, even if they’re across the Atlantic.

From a cultural standpoint, we create an open environment where employees aren’t afraid to reach out to their support network, whether they’ve been in the job one week or three years.

What do you wish more HR professionals and recruiters knew about eLearning?

We wish more HR professionals knew these two things about eLearning:

1. eLearning should be more than just “checking the box;” there should be a transfer of knowledge.

2. eLearning doesn’t have to be boring. Start with the basics: make the learning short, relevant, and impactful to your learners.

How important is employee education in employee retention?

While employee education is not a magic bullet to increasing employee retention, making sure your employees understand the company culture and know how to do their job can help set them up for success and establish the tone for their performance. When an employee feels they are part of something bigger and are performing well at their job, it generally reduces their chances of leaving.

For anyone who won’t be able to make it to the Interactive Services booth in Las Vegas, what do you want them to know?

If you’re looking for interactive training that treats your learners like adults, Interactive Services would love to partner with you for your eLearning solutions. Our current best seller is our anti-harassment training, fully compliant with all U.S. laws including New York and California, and is used widely by companies with a household name.
