A #SHRM19 Interview with DevryWORKS

This 2019 SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition (#SHRM19) interview is with DeVryWORKS, an education provider that helps employees grow in their careers. Below is a quick Q&A with the company.

Who is DeVryWORKS!? Tell us everything, just as you would someone approaching your booth and asking you this question at #SHRM19 in Las Vegas.

At DeVryWORKS, we’ve seen how the right talent initiatives can help unlock workforce potential and energize a business growth strategy. We team with our employer-partners to truly understand their critical business issues and workforce needs so we can provide targeted solutions to resolve them. Look to us for custom programs to help you acquire and retain strong talent, upskill and reskill your workforce, keep pace with market and tech changes, and develop tomorrow’s leaders.

Talent Development is especially interesting to us. What innovative strategies does DeVry employ to develop talent?

At DeVryWORKS, we have formed strategic alliances with many leading companies and organizations, helping them educate and engage top talent to help with development goals. We help our partners innovate around talent development through targeted initiatives, such as scholarship programs, enhanced benefits like partner tuition savings and complementary first courses, and learning pathways for upskilling and reskilling aimed at activating talent across the employee lifecycle.

Let us in on the magic. What’s the talent acquisition process like at DeVryWORKS? How do you utilize your own tech and processes to keep your workforce innovative and bridge any skill gaps?

What are the most common skill gaps you see today?

We identified trends through the results of our 2018 Career Advisory Board (CAB) survey, “Talent Activation, the Employee Experience, and Skill Development,” which examined how larger companies are currently activating their talent by specific employee experiences related to skills. Not surprisingly, given prior career advisory board research on technology and “soft” skills, the greatest skills gaps we’ve observed are in the areas of:

  • technology/digital fluency (cited by 62 percent of respondents)

  • communication (56 percent)

  • business acumen (48 percent)

  • diversity and cultural awareness (46 percent)

  • customer service (42 percent)

What do you wish more HR professionals and recruiters knew about talent acquisition and talent development?

In our work, we’ve found some of the greatest areas of opportunity for your business may be found in the potential of your workforce. It begins with candidates and continues across the employee lifecycle—we believe it’s a missed opportunity to overlook that potential! That’s why we focus on successful strategies to help our partners:

  • Engage talent from acquisition through to executive training

  • Develop team strengths and gain skillsets to meet your business needs

  • Empower employees to flourish in their roles and boost the bottom line

For anyone who won’t be able to make it to the DeVryWORKS booth in Las Vegas, what do you want them to know?

We understand pressing workforce challenges—a shortage of skills, training your talent and retaining them for the long term. Partnering with DeVryWORKS offers many benefits for organizations on talent acquisition, skills gap training and talent development, such as:

  • Access to DeVry University programs that stay on pace with advances in major industries and focus on skill sets that can be utilized in today’s workplace.

  • Hands-on, experiential learning that is rooted in real business and technological challenges, allowing your employees the opportunity to apply their skills right after the completion of their degree program.

  • Solutions that keep talented team members engaged with opportunities to enhance the critical thinking skills, business acumen and technology aptitude they’ll need to succeed in modern business world and grow along with your company and developing the leaders of tomorrow.

  • Don’t miss the opportunity to work with our dedicated teams specializing in employer relations, internships, military and veteran services and career preparation. We are an integrated team providing workforce solutions beyond college education and training programs!
