A #SHRM19 Interview with Amventure


This is a 2019 SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition (#SHRM19) interview is with AmVenture, an insurance provider for small businesses. Below is a quick Q&A with the President and CEO, Sam Liotta.

Who is AmVenture!? Tell us everything, just as you would someone approaching your booth and asking you this question at #SHRM19 in Las Vegas.

AmVenture Insurance Agency, Inc. offers national business insurance solutions and employee benefits programs that support a broad range of organizations including unions, associations, benefits providers, and small businesses.  We work with clients of all sizes to provide appropriate coverages for businesses and their employees.

Particularly in the human resources industry, our goal is to help our customers secure the right protection to keep their organizations operating smoothly in the event of things like employee accidents, illnesses/injuries, or other life events. By relying on our leadership team with 50 plus years of insurance experience and our professional staff to assess the needs of our clients, we work to design solutions that offer protection from risks that may arise.

We are proud to offer a full suite of coverages to our customers including paid family leave, workers’ compensation, disability, employment practices liability, businessowner’s policy, professional liability, general liability, and cyber liability insurance.  One thing to emphasize is that not only do we provide our customers with a variety of coverages, but we can create dedicated insurance programs for organizations and manage their administration. In essence, we can focus on your insurance while you focus on other important initiatives.

AmVenture offers a wide range of products, which could be challenging to someone who isn’t familiar with insurance. How do you ensure companies are getting exactly what they need?

At AmVenture, we absolutely understand that the insurance process can be overwhelming. Making sure you have the appropriate coverage to protect your employees and your business is critical.  However, we are here to help you every step of the way.

We use an individualized approach with our customers. Our friendly staff takes the time to learn about your business and listen to your concerns.  We identify circumstances surrounding your organization that can impact your coverage. For example, we look at factors including geographic location, number of employees, employee salary information and employee benefits contributions (if applicable) to help us present you with appropriate insurance options.  Our customers are all different and we appreciate this. What works for one organization may be very different from what works for another.

Once we have gathered enough information to discuss your coverage options with you, we focus on education. We want our customers to know what kinds of insurance they have secured. This can include what is covered under their specific policy, what the limits are, the benefits our carriers offer and how the insurance life cycle generally works. If questions arise, we are available to address any inquiries. We strive to provide outstanding customer service with every interaction.

Let us in on the magic. AmVenture is a small company, just like the ones you offer services to. What insurance products does AmVenture offer for its employees?

At AmVenture, our employees are our priority. Similar to the companies we serve, we offer our staff access to our full suite of coverage options depending upon their insurance needs.  We are proud to support our employees in all of their endeavors.

What are the biggest challenges companies face when decidingon how to insure themselves? How do they overcome those challenges?

As mentioned earlier, the insurance process can be overwhelming. Once you secure your coverage, you need to consider if that coverage will be appropriate as you grow. Identifying an insurance agency that can accommodate the evolution of your business is perhaps one of the biggest challenges companies face in terms of their protection.  You may be a start-up company that goes with minimum coverage initially, but your needs will likely change and become more complex over time. It is important to partner with an agency that offers solutions to address your growth. At AmVenture, we pride ourselves on providing these types of options.

What do you wish more HR professionals knew about the insurance industry?

In many organizations, you will often see the accounting or finance department handling the acquisition of insurance for the business while the HR department is responsible for selecting the employee-related coverages. This can lead to using multiple agencies and carriers, which can make things more complex than necessary. There are many benefits of having your insurance (i.e., workers’ compensation and disability) placed with one agency or carrier.  Having one point of contact to help handle your coverage needs can make the process much smoother. Our company offers package solutions for workers’ compensation, disability and paid family leave in an effort to streamline business insurance.  We can also easily add coverages to any of the packages we offer.
