Karen E. Mitchell joined SHRM in March 2017 and is currently the Global Outreach Liaison. Karen manages the Secretariat of the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), the Secretariat of the North America Human Resource Management Association (NAHRMA) and is a steering committee member for the Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN) SkillingNow Campaign, in addition to several other international SHRM initiatives.
Before joining SHRM, Karen worked as an international program manager for almost 9 years at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC, which is the main political, legal and social forum with 35 member countries in Latin America, North America and the Caribbean, and 69 observers worldwide. She was also a consultant for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO). Karen has extensive experience in the areas of foreign relations and diplomacy, social inclusion, and international development, and has participated in several inter-American committees composed of presidents and international government leaders.
Karen has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Marymount University and a master's degree in International Relations and Conflict Resolution with a Concentration in National and Transnational Issues from American Public University. Karen is also bilingual in English and Spanish, with a basic understanding of Portuguese.
