One of the biggest keys to success in any career is mentorship. Research over the last 30 years suggests that finding the right mentor can serve as a true lever for career success. In HR, the role of mentoring can be absolutely pivotal in preventing faux pas and learning the virtues of leadership and navigation, a core competency. Each time I think of mentorship I recall the impact my mentors have had and key incidents where I learned the most.
Relocating to a new city can be a very stressful experience for employees, especially if they have never lived in the country they are moving to. It can also be very expensive for companies, with major repercussions on budget and productivity.
The SHRM 2015 Talent Conference & Exposition
More than 1,300 HR professionals and recruiters gather in San Diego from April 27-29 to discuss hiring and job-related topics during the SHRM Talent Management Conference & Exposition.
Yes, the candidate experience at your organization is miserable.
You’d think that with all the shiny new technology, channels for communication and platforms for social media interaction, organizations would have figured out a way to create a kinder candidate experience. But in 2015, most companies continue to leave bad impressions and drive people away.

Recruiting talent is serious business. No asset is more important to an organization’s success than it’s talent – and the entire organization relies on HR to secure the right talent for the right position. Still, most HR departments aren’t given limitless resources find and hire the best talent the workforce has to offer. That’s a lot of pressure to deal with.
Just as a resume is a candidate’s first chance to make a great impression, so too are a company’s job listings. A great job description will encourage a more qualified candidate to apply, just as a poor listing can ensure he or she moves on to other openings. In fact, the average job seeker spends less than 30 seconds reviewing a job posting, so effective descriptions are vital to standing out from the pack and attracting top talent.

A pause to reflect on linguistics and digital communications
April 23rd is English Language Day at the United Nations. It’s also the birthday of William Shakespeare. In 2010, the Department of Public Information established a day to celebrate for each of the six official languages.
Paul Grice (1913-1988) was a British Philosopher of Language and published work on the nature of meaning and developed a theory of implicature – the meaning implied in what is uttered.
The phone rings and before you finish saying “hello,” the chief compliance officer of a Fortune 20 client is quickly relaying to you that an accounting manager has just filed an internal complaint of sexual harassment against the Chief Financial Officer. In addition to the harassment charge (which includes transcripts of voicemails of the CFO making lewd and suggestive comments), the manager also accuses the CFO of filing false expense reports.

The theory behind performance management is simple enough: Align the personal and professional goals of your employees with the strategic goals of your organization, and you'll be in a far better position to achieve ongoing success.
Performance management encompasses the setting of these goals, and the monitoring of employees and departments to ensure that objectives are being met in the most effective way possible.

Going to a conference can be intimidating especially if you are first-time attendee. Not knowing where to go and not knowing another soul at an event can be lonely so here are some tips that will not only make your conference experience more enjoyable but also hopefully less stressful!
1. Have a Plan. To make the most of your time at a conference it is important to have a plan for example, what sessions do you want to attend and/or what exhibitors do you want to talk you.

We can all use a little ongoing development. There are certain skills that few people can master and never think about improving. One of those skills is the art of negotiation. I admit, there are people who seem to ooze confidence when it comes to wheeling-and-dealing to achieve the result they want. However, for the majority, being able to negotiate a quality resolution is sporadic at best.
