As Kelly Andrews began his freshmen year at BYU, he participated in activities offered by the Society of Human Resource Management’s student OBHR chapter. But after noticing only a handful of people in attendance at each meeting, Andrews was determined to make a change.
 
Andrew’s resolve led to a re-evaluation of the chapter’s objectives as well as a campaign to spread awareness. Now SHRM has hundreds of members and OBHR applicants have more than doubled in number.

I never thought I’d be the type of person who reminisces as he got older. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t yearn for the past when things were better and people had a stronger work ethic, etc. Trust me, I am doing what I can to debunk the continued effort to separate, isolate and categorize generations. I think it’s short-sighted and runs contrary to what HR should emulate – the bringing together of all of our differences to make us even stronger !!

As a college student at James Madison University preparing to search for my first internship, I was filled with apprehension after hearing classmates’ scary stories from their past internships. Many of my friends spent their unpaid summers tucked away in a corner cubicle with a copier and a coffee maker as their only company--and their stories formed my impression of what to expect from internships.
