Five Benefits Employees Will Love

With the makeup of the workforce changing, the benefits employees value are changing as well. Gen Z and Millennials are edging out Baby Boomers and Gen Xers for the lionshare of the workplace… so what benefits are important to these employees? What will they value that will help you not only recruit but retain top talent? I talk to hundreds of employees each month, and hear firsthand what staff are looking for.

Here are five benefits employees love:

The Top 3 HR Tech Implementation Mistakes

Okay, you’ve selected your HR tech solution. You’ve signed the paperwork. Now it’s time for implementation–are you ready?

Technology implementations, regardless of whether you’re using Oracle, SAP, Workday, or someone else, are challenging. That’s because the average HR leader only gets a chance to do this maybe once or twice in their career. It’s easy to miss the mark, and a bad experience can have career-impacting consequences. That said, a great implementation can make you look like a star to your team and your leaders.

In today’s episode, Ben interviews Caleb Fullhart about the key mistakes HR leaders make...

A Culture of Belonging

It’s wintertime in the U.S. and as we look towards the coming spring equinox, we are reminded of the warmth, optimism, and the replenishment that the coming months will bring. A similar feeling of warmth and growth happens when we spend time with our friends and families. We have a sense of inclusion, a sense of support and growth, of new beginnings. We are supported and encouraged to be our whole selves and to grow.

We experience a sense of belonging.

Belonging is not a new fad – we can...

Reacting to Change

On December 31st, 2018 an interesting article appeared in the New York Times. It was titled “Wielding Rocks and Knives, Arizonans Attack Self-Driving Cars“.  It wasn’t a lazy review of some crazy future book. The fourth industrial revolution is here and our tools seem to be testing us. And some of us are running out of patience. The world is reacting to change. Like in Arizona, people were pelting stones at driverless cars! Including one man who jumped in front of one driverless car and waved a gun at it saying, ‘he despises it’!

Women's Day

In a nation where a vast majority is obsessed with the male child, I grew up in a female dominated family of three women and one man – my Father, the minority! I was the younger of two sisters and when my mother was expecting me, my maternal grandmother waited with bated breath for her ‘grandson’ to be born.... instead there I was - the second grand-daughter! As the story goes, when I was born, the nurse who came to break the news to my poor fretting and impatient dad pacing the waiting room. She actually started with the sentence...

International Women's Day 2019: “Better Workplaces, Better World”

Today, SHRM proudly celebrates the achievements of women around the globe by participating in the 108th annual International Women’s Day. Observed each year on March 8, International Women’s Day is a worldwide event designed to celebrate the “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.” As we applaud these contributions to society, it is important to recognize that women and girls continue to face barriers to education and employment in many countries. In fact, in 18 countries, husbands can legally...

Empowering Women to be Leaders in Their Industry

I truly believe that women today are capable enough to not only take on leadership roles but excel at them. However, I also believe that they can get to the top on their own steam. They don’t need special concessions or champions to scale great heights. We need to applaud women’s accomplishments, not because of their gender but because of the value, they bring to the table. Celebrating ‘women power’ on just the one day in the year is doing

IWD 2019-“In Order for Change to Really be Made, Men and Women Have to Work Together”

I am so excited that it is the fourth year in a row that we are celebrating International Women’s Day at SHRM. In Russia, where I grew up, IWD or March 8th is a national holiday that signifies the important role that women play in the world. This holiday is truly special to me. Even as a girl, I would get presents and flowers from my Dad for March 8th. It is also a tradition in Russia for boys to get together and give small gifts to the girls at school. On...

To Win the Best Talent, Start with a Positive Job Candidate Experience

In today’s candidate-driven hiring environment, job seekers have many options. That’s why providing a positive interview experience is gaining recognition among employers as a pre-requisite for attracting top talent. In my experience, it is an essential recruiting tool.

A positive experience during the interview process not only impresses the candidate, but also helps build a pipeline of quality applicants as others hear about it. This increases the company’s competitiveness and boosting the overall quality of the firm’s job applicant pool. On the flip side, a negative experience can diminish the likelihood...
