By Hank Jackson, SHRM President & CEO
Last week, the nation recognized Veterans Day, a time set aside to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces for their many sacrifices on our behalf.
This Veterans Day has a special personal meaning for my family because my son-in-law returned home from Afghanistan two weeks ago. He and my family were particularly touched as we met him at the airport gate and the entire waiting area applauded. All of our veterans should feel so appreciated.
President Obama has perhaps said it best in his Proclamation:
“Through their steadfast defense of America’s ideals, our service members have ensured our country still stands strong, our founding principles still shine, and nations around the world know the blessings of freedom. As we offer our sincere appreciation and respect to our veterans, to their families, to those who are still in harm’s way, and to those we have laid to rest, let us rededicate ourselves to serving them as well as they have served the United States of America.”
A special thank you to our SHRM members and employees who have served in the military and their families. We are proud to have them as our colleagues.
